The warm red slopes of our vineyard nourish deep-rooted vines, planted in 1990 and managed for low, intensely flavored yields.

Our own roots in this soil stretch from 1961, when John and Lena Winter resettled from Illinois bringing the wrought iron hinges that now grace our cellar door. At Winter's Hill we pride ourselves on growing the finest grapes, harvesting them at optimum ripeness, and crafting the best wines possible. From the start of the growing season to the final production of the wines, it's our family's work, pride, and joy.

Located in the Dundee Hills AVA within the Willamette Valley, our 35 acre estate vineyard is the source of 95% of the grapes used to make Winter’s Hill wines. South facing, at an elevation of 525-730 ft, the site is ideal for the production of premium wines. Winter’s Hill has 21 acres of Pinot Noir planted at 1089 vines to the acre. The 12 acres planted with own rooted vines in 1990 are trained to a Scott Henry divided canopy. Nine acres were planted between 1997 and 2000 on phylloxera resistant rootstocks. The vineyard is all on Jory soil (silty clay loam), the most sought after soil type for the growing of premium grapes. The clones planted are Pommard, Dijon 114 and 115, and Wadensvil. Our entire vineyard has been certified by LIVE of Oregon (Low Input Viticulture & Enology) as Sustainable and Salmon Safe since 1999.
