About This Product
Johan Vineyards’ goal is to produce wines that showcase our unique estate vineyard and each individual growing season. We do this by minimal winemaker intervention in producing our wine. Our style is to produce a wine with balance, complexity and elegance. This Pinot Noir was made from the winemakers’ selection of estate grown fruit. The grapes were fermented (both primary and malolactic) using exclusively native yeast, with approximately 42% whole-cluster. The wine was aged for 11 months in 100% French oak barrels; 32% were new. In line with the goals of Johan Vineyards, this Pinot Noir is made in a classic style, with a focus on balance, complexity and elegance. It clearly represents the characters and nuances of Johan Vineyards as well as the 2009 growing-season.

Vineyard Notes:
The 2009 growing season was a hotter than the average year with several heat spikes above 100° F. Due to our proximity to the Van Duzer Corridor every afternoon the winds picked up and dropped the temperature down 3°-4° keeping our vineyard cooler than our neighbors. This allowed our grapes to mature at a relatively slower pace which gave us the opportunity to have adequate hang time without elevated sugars. Resulting in a wine with low alcohol and full ripe flavors.
