Vineyard Notes:
Our family is first and foremost viticulturists, believing that the journey to a great wine starts in the vineyard. The Durants have grown Chardonnay in the Dundee hills for over 35 years. The original 108 clones planted in Oregon were difficult to ripen and produce inconsistent wines. The Durants were one of the early adopters of the Burgundian Dijon Clones that are more appropriately suited to the Northern Willamette Valley. The Lark Vineyard Block, planted in 1991, is located on a lower elevation vineyard that generally has warmer afternoon temperatures, but cools rapidly in the evening as the convective wind currents pull heat off the valley floor. Leaves were removed from around the clusters allowing for good air circulation and exposure. All our vineyards are sustainably farmed and LIVE and Salmon Safe Certified.

Production Notes:
Pioneers in the Oregon Wine Industry with nearly 40 years growing in the Dundee Hills, the Durant’s have select estate vineyards crafted into premium wine by some the finest winemakers in Oregon. The 2008 Chardonnay was made by Dean Fisher of ADEA Winery. Dean has been handcrafting exquisite wines in Oregon for many years and has sourced Durant fruit for some his best wines. The 2008 Chardonnay is 100% barrel fermented for 10 months with a combination of French and Oregon White Oak. The extended duration in Oak provides for subtle support of the natural Chardonnay characteristics without overpowering the wine.

Winemaker Notes:
The 2008 vintage is anticipated as one of the great vintages in Oregon. The spring and early summer of 2008 were relatively cool and crop loading was light. The late summer and fall unfolded into nearly flawless climate conditions. The cool evenings and warm sunny afternoons of September and October permitted slow ripening of fruit, allowing for deep flavor profiles and excellent balance.
