Vineyard Notes:
The Durant’s have grown Pinot Noir in the Dundee hills for over 35 years. Our family is first and foremost viticulturists, believing that the journey to a great wine starts in the vineyard. The Lark Vineyard Block, planted in 1992, is located on a lower elevation vineyard that generally has warmer afternoon temperatures, but cools rapidly in the evening as the convective wind currents pull heat off the valley floor. Our lowest elevation Vineyard, Lark produces bright fruit and balance Pinot Noir. Leaves were removed from around the clusters allowing for good air circulation and exposure. All our vineyards are sustainably farmed and LIVE and Salmon Safe Certified.
Winemaker Notes:
Pioneers in the Oregon Wine Industry with nearly 40 years growing in the Dundee Hills, the Durants have select estate vineyards crafted into premium wine by some of the finest winemakers in Oregon. The 2008 Lark Pinot Noir was made by Joe Dobbes Joe has crafted to excellent wines at Dobbes Family Estate and the Durant’s are pleased to have him on our Team. After destem and crush, the 2008 Lark Pinot was cold soaked for approximately 5 days prior to fermentation. The wine was aged for approximately 9.5 months in 100% French Oak barrels prior to bottling and was subsequently aged for 10 months prior to release.
Vintage Notes:
The 2008 vintage is set to be one of the Ages for Oregon Vineyards. The spring and summer were unusually cool. Especially, the months of June and July. In an effort to ensure optimal quality, crop loads were reduced. September and October were nearly perfect months for optimal Pinot Noir development. Days in the high 80’s and low 90’s were followed by nighttime temperature in the low 40’s. These temperature profiles make for optimal flavor and complexity development in the vineyards.
