Red Ridge/Durant Vineyards
In 1973, the Durant family planted their first vineyard in the Dundee Hills of Oregon. In the 35+ years since this first planting, they have continued to cultivate and harvest fine wine grapes. Many of the original vineyards continue to flourish and produce today.
As pioneers in the Oregon wine industry, the Durant family has focused on producing premier Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. They recognized early on the distinctive character of wines produced in the Dundee Hills due to the unique soil types and climate conditions.
Durant Vineyards has two primary goals; to provide grapes to select premier wineries in Oregon, and to produce their own estate wines. In keeping with their passion for quality and understanding of the growing conditions of the Dundee Hills, they consistently produce some of the finest wine grapes in the Oregon that blend into top-rated wines.
Located in the Red Hills of Dundee, the Durant Vineyards soils are comprised mainly of the famous red Jory, but also include a small amount of Woodburn. Over 60+ acres of grapes are dry farmed with minimal intervention, producing world class Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay.
The vineyards are in a unique microclimate that allows the grapes to ripen before the heavy rains that can complicate Oregon harvests. The Durants are extremely involved in farming their land and employ careful and sustainable agriculture.
With one of the oldest vineyards in the Dundee Hills, Durant wines have set a benchmark for depth of concentration and elegance. The Durant family's goal over the past quarter century has remained the same: to raise high-quality grapes to create superior wines.
With these goals, the Durants have achieved LIVE (Low Input & Viticulture Enology) status for their vineyards. The objectives of this program are:
*See the vineyard as a whole system.
*Create and maintain a high level of quality fruit production.
*Implement practices that reduce reliance on synthetic chemicals and fertilizers with the goal of protecting the farmer, the environment, and communities at large.
*Encourage responsible stewardship of the land, maintain natural fertility and ecosystem stability.
*Promote sustainable farming practices that maintain biological diversity in the whole farm.
The Durants bottle a limited production of wines from a small selection of their estate vineyards including Lark, LaCasita and Southside.
